Do abbreviations have capital letters?

Abbreviations that are initialisms generally contain capital letters. Acronyms (abbreviations pronounced as words) also often comprise all capital letters, although in some styles, only the first letter is capitalized. Acronyms that become words in their own right are lowercased.
